This idea came to me when I was playing with a packet of matches as one of those habits some people have to tear and bend pieces of paper or small objects that fall into hand.  I had seperated the
cardboard sticks from the cover which is held by a staple. As I tore away on match sticks I noticed 8 were left,  kind of reminded of me of a spider, so I thought it would be cool to turn it into
one by bending the sticks to make the legs look like seperate joints.  Then I thought it would make an interesting drawing if there was a hand trying to burn it. So I called the piece”
Don’t burn it.” No real deep message or meaning behind it, but I realized it could be adapted as one, such as not to burn bridges not the object but the expression behind it, and the power stop yourself from temptation sometimes, and not to kill spiders cause somewhere I heard the superstition that it is bad luck because they carry messages. The piece is sketched on paper then scanned
into the computer and digitally illustrated and printed as a 3 color silk screened poster.

Just like most things in life everything has a positive and a negative. This holds true for skateboard graphics in how you choose to create them. When creating a custom skateboard deck, you have to think of the end result. What do you want to accomplish at the end is the biggest influence when it comes to choosing whether to going digital or tradition. When going traditional
the pros are that you can use a wide range of mediums to create your graphics and make the graphics looks very personal. The cons are that when done, making copies is almost impossible. With the digital process, the artist is limited to the computer programs and their tools, but if done right the custom graphics can still come out looking great and best of all, you can make 100s of identical copies that looks just as good as the original.

The use of a skateboard deck as a canvas is a great way to get your art on something, not only different ( not flat), but something that can also be used to have a lot of fun with.

The human brain is connected to the outside world by mostly 5 main senses. Them being:  feel, taste, smell, hearing, and sight. Take those away and you are left with an organ that can still think, imagine and have dreams so real that you wouldn’t even know that you are just a brain.  Over time an organ like that would evolve inwards so much that it would no longer need or remember the “physical” world.

I think when we sleep and are cut off from all of our senses our brains slows down and we can pick up on the chaos that is our subconscious. Sleep is designed by nature to allow you to turns off your consciousness, but there is still some part of your brain that is awake during the REM cycle that allows you to take a quick peek at what’s going on.

Dunkees got invited to participe in what is setting up to be on the greatest art events in So. Cal. Dunkees and Chris Dyer will be drawing on two 8′ x 10′ canvases in a span on 3 days of the show.
